Dynamics NAV 2015 is leading the mobile-first, cloud-first revolution

Dynamics NAV 2015 is leading the mobile-first, cloud-first revolution

If you’ve been following Microsoft since Satya Nadella’s appointment as CEO, you’ll be aware of their new-found mantra: mobile-first, cloud-first. Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2015 – Microsoft’s premier ERP solution – is leading the way.

Big waves

Mobile-first, cloud-first applies to everything that Microsoft does. From the way the corporation has restructured itself, to the way it builds its new products and services, and positions them in front of its audience. It’s clear that Microsoft is building products for an audience that is on the go, and surrounded by an connections.

According to Nadella:

“Microsoft has a unique ability to harmonize the world’s devices, apps, docs, data and social networks in digital work and life experiences so that people are at the center and are empowered to do more and achieve more with what is becoming an increasingly scarce commodity – time!”

NAV 2015: Built from the ground up for tablets

So if every product and service that Microsoft builds maintains this, what makes Dynamics NAV 2015 so special? It’s that this new iteration of NAV has been designed from scratch to operate primarily on tablet, with desktop being of secondary concern.

NAV is targeted at those in the manufacturing, retail, distribution, and professional services. This means that NAV has to be above all things agile and flexible – in terms of portability and scope for use. NAV 2015 has been structured to meet these needs.

From a developer perspective, NAV 2015 has streamlined things massively, too, making tablet development hassle-free. For example, the tablet client syncs directly with the other versions of the client.

This means that – according to the NAV team – content displayed in the tablet client “consists of application pages coming from your Dynamics NAV 2015 server.”

Ultimately, NAV 2015 has been built to be adaptable, and this means following Nadella’s mobile-first, cloud-first goal. After all, this strategy does seem to be paying dividends: Microsoft’s Q2 earnings results show that commercial cloud revenue – that includes Microsoft Dynamics – has grown by 114%.
